The Baroque Town of Acireale

Acireale nestled between sea and land its a precious jewel of Baroque architecture,full of natural,artistic and cultural treasures for you to see. Located between the majestic Mount Etna and the nature reserve of the Riviera of the Cyclopes where you can enjoy great scuba diving,the town itself owes its baroque treasures to the great reconstruction after the tragic earthquake that destroyed it in 1693,a must see is the Basilica of Saint Sebastian and the Piazza Duomo, the cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul famous for the characteristic bell-spire,the Palace of the Council and the Benedict monastery,then if you stroll along the Corso Umberto try the famous Almond and Lemon Granita made all year around. Near Acireale there are many beaches characterized by lava rocks, Acireale has many restaurants that specialize in sicilian fish cuisine,also one of their specialty is the "pani cunzatu" oven fresh bread seasoned with traditional seasonings,on the 20th of January the citizens of Acireale celebrate the feast of Saint Sebastian patron saint of the city, the city is synonymous with its Carnival in February, Puppet theatre and the natural hot baths using the sulfurous waters that are a pleasant 24 degrees from a volcanic source located in Saint Venere al Pozzo.
